Abounding in service to the Lord (2)

The Christian has been called to a life of service. Coming alongside one’s belief in the Gospel are responsibilities. Things to be done for the Lord. So, the Christian ought to know what it means and how to serve the Lord.

Paul shows us how the Lord ought to be served in Rom 12:11 – He says ‘fervent in Spirit’; ‘not slothful’. Again, this shows us that service to the Lord ought not to be treated as a hobby or extracurricular activity – it is labour. Paul calls it so:

I Thess. 1:2-3;
2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;
3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

Heb. 6:10;
10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

It’s a labour of love. It is work that ought to be done whether the believer feels like it or not. It’s service to the Lord.

It has been clearly established in the first part that service means availability. So, the man who will serve the Lord will make himself available to be used and not give excuses. Excuses are the bane of a man who will not serve the Lord. If you will follow God’s plan for your life, let go of them. What the Lord demands is your obedience, not excuses.

Service means you’ll be used. You’ll be used for the church, for His work. Thus, ask yourself: Am I being used? Because, if God is not using you, then the devil is. You don’t come to church to just learn the word and go home. No! If the word blesses you, then the least you can do is make yourself available to be used. The man who is truly a student of the word is the man who does the word.

Service means to help with something that’s not personal to you. Servants of God make it possible for other sons to come to glory. Be a true servant. Many have laid down their lives for this course. We ought to also. Our sacrifices for ministry will count. Remember, Jesus never forgets your labour of love.

More so, honour the lord with your attitude. If it’s about you, then it’s not about the Lord; if it’s about the Lord, then it’s not about you. There is nothing that warrants bringing your earthly status and positions to the house of the lord. Service means that you’ll be a servant. The moment your ego sets in, you should know that the devil is working on you.

The believer has been called to serve the Lord. Your greatest desire should be to see men saved. Don’t hold back. Serve the lord in unity of purpose. Serve God’s vision in your local church. Don’t be the lukewarm one. Be that person who is blazing hot for the Lord in your local church. The man given to the Lord’s will.

Remember, eternity is longer than now, and the lord’s work must be done while it is day, for night comes when no man can work. So, stay relentless in serving the Lord.
