As far as your eyes can see (2)
Yesterday, we saw how one whose eyes cannot see will live a life ignorant of God’s help and may unknowingly submit to the wiles of the enemy.
The eyes are so important, especially for the minister of the gospel. In Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan by the well,
Read John 4:1-35;
John 4:31-35
31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
This was Jesus speaking in parables, talking about the field being white and ready for harvest to mean harvest for souls. As is Jesus’ custom, he uses things they can see in the natural to communicate Kingdom realities.
His disciples came talking about how he should eat, but they were not seeing the work of God and plan of God as priority and with urgency. God’s plan is found in the salvation of men.
1 Tim 2:4;
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
Jesus’ response to them was, “…lift your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” This was Jesus helping them to see what matters. Oftentimes, our attention is on the earthly, but He wants you to see His way: the right way.
Many have got so complacent and satisfied that they don’t realize the urgency and enormity of the Father’s work. In the kingdom, the labourers have never been more than the harvest.
Matthew 9:37-38
37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
The King’s work requires haste. Since you are born of God, you will not find ultimate satisfaction in anything but God’s. These are times of intense focus, you can’t keep undulating as a believer.
Lift up your eyes is the Lord’s instruction and see far. It is you fixing your gaze and attention on the harvest. Let this be your daily goal, God is counting on you. This is not the time to feign being a ‘man of God’. We are servants of God, servants seek work not accolades.
When we don’t see far, we live ordinary lives.
