Be circumspect (3)
Having expectations is very normal, but having expectations does not mean they will come to pass, you ought to work towards it. One of the reasons we pray is because we are hopeful to get results. In getting our desired expectations, there is work to be done. Serving God requires being hopeful, it’s God’s way.
How do you work towards having a fruitful year?
1. Use your time wisely:
A good usage of time will produce the expected results. Time is the only entity that stays lost when one loses it. So, do the right thing at the right time, and make your time count. Have time for spiritual activities, have times of prayer and fasting. A fruitful new year won’t just fall on you. Create time to work the gifts of the spirit: tongues, interpretation of tongues, healing, gift of faith, words of wisdom and knowledge, working of miracles and prophecy. They are within your purview, and the more time you spend with and around the gifts of the Spirit, the better you get in functioning with them. Oftentimes, what men term grace is a function of time well spent in that direction, because whatever you do long enough will affect you.
In the natural, create time to rest, play, sleep, and eat. Set some order into your life, don’t be loose. Take hold of your time with minutes. Create time for your career — whatever your hands find doing, do it well. Know your job well.
2. Be patient:
Time works well for you when you are patient. Don’t be always in a hurry — “Hasty climbers have sudden falls”, that’s true. Learn to tell yourself, ‘calm down’. There are times when good things take time. Do not always be in a hurry to get things done. Walk in God’s time, it’s the best. Patience is in doing what God will have you do when he wants you to do it. Have that patient spirit. Patience isn’t just that you’re waiting, it is also in your attitude while waiting.
3. Use good counsel.
The Christian journey is orchestrated in a way that you should not walk alone; that is why we have the local church, where we can have good counsel.
Proverbs 11:14; Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Counsellor in this verse means ‘advice’ and the word multitude does not depict number, it’s talking about the quality. That is, in the multitude of counsels, there is safety. Learn to seek counsels, godly ones, there is safety there.
Proverbs 12:15; The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
4. Make the right relationships. The right relationships will help you utilize time properly. You need to check any friend who always delights in engaging in unfruitful activities. Don’t company with time wasters.
Proverbs 27:17; Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
Iron sharpens iron. Get into the company of those who will make you better, and make better relationships. Friendship is vital in the way you serve God, so have good friends.
1 Thessalonians 5:11; Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
Always ensure you are in a circle where you have people who can build you up. Choose the right relationships.
