Be Exemplary (1)

Sometimes, being young and youthful opens you up to several things. One of such is being despised. You will find those who will look down on you and attribute your passion and commitment to the gospel to simply being youthful and exuberant. While this is in many cases untrue, you must not be a willing player in foisting this bias-be a good example. Being young should not also be an excuse for not being exemplary. When you dodge being an example under the guise of being young, you are not only disobeying the scriptures, you are also giving room for the untaught to malign the message.

Regarding your conduct as a minister of the gospel, being exemplary cannot be overemphasized. Paul instructs Timothy in this–

1 Timothy 4:12 (KJV) – Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Let no man despise your youth. Sometimes, the “despising” may have little or nothing to do with you, and that is why Paul gives us what to do to avoid strengthening it. We must be shining examples to others of how Christians should behave and act.

Paul lists areas where the believer should excel in being exemplary, and one of such is in Purity. Purity means holy living, holiness and Christian living. The believer must be exemplary in Purity and what it means to live righteously. For example, it is out of sorts for a believer to make lying a habit under any guise. The scripture is clear on us being truthful at all times.

Let your words be filled with truth. Be known for your honesty and integrity. Don’t engage in gossip, slander, or deceit. Maintain a pure spirit, free from bitterness, envy, and hatred. Forgive as you have been forgiven. Let your conduct be a testament to your faith. In your actions and decisions, choose the path that aligns with what you have been taught in the word.
