Develop a reading culture
Bible study is not s special service in the body of Christ, it is the core of the Christian worship, there can’t be worship (to see God) without Bible study.
Acts 8:27-30;
27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
This man came to Jerusalem and he read Isaiah the prophet. Reading is a core part of our faith, it is the first key to understanding.
As much as there is no scripture that asks the believer to study for himself (as that can be the start of error on its own), yet the believer is enjoined to read that which has been explained.
Your church notes (which you should have) are not for museums, they are to be read. In reading, your understanding of the explanations is deepened, and much more you get to be able to explain better too. If we are to understand bible concepts, We must be given to reading. Paul puts it this way:
Ephesians 3:2-4;
2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
WHEN YOU READ, YOU MAY UNDERSTAND.
Some even go all the way to buy books, edifying books and yet, they Make it just another paper pack on the shelf, it ought not to be so, our reading precedes understanding. An understanding and good grasp of the scriptures will not jump on anyone.
In another light, Paul will often tell it to the whole church to read or the pastor to read to the church.
Colossians 4:15-16;
15 Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house.
16 And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.
Diligent reading of what has been explained is not “old testament”, it is spiritual growth. When we don’t read, we assume, when we assume, we part with the truth. Make up your mind to develop a reading culture, spend time taking in God’s word and let its understanding work out God’s will in you.
