Discipleship with Power (1)

The purpose of a thing is perhaps the most important virtue about it. There are several things around us that find meaning around us in the context of their purpose. Take for example, a spoon, we see it from the lens of what we use it for–feeding. Same with a cup or a note of money and almost every other thing (including people)- their purposes and what they represent define them.

Leaving carnal examples behind, we can draw the same parallels in Spiritual growth. This is because the most important truth a Christian should find out is their purpose— Why am I here? What am I here for? Once we can discover purpose, everything else pales into insignificance at the sight of it. Purpose settles everything.

Thankfully, the word of God is absolute. The scriptures give us a clear understanding of what we are here for and this is to reach the world with the message of the gospel via preaching and teaching:

See Matthew 28:18-20;
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Fruitfulness in Christ is God’s design for the believer. Fruitfulness is in teaching men to observe what Jesus taught, which the apostles also taught, and is our message today. Simply put, discipleship is definite.

We are instructed to wage a good warfare with the message. This is because there’s a possibility of deviating from the truth.

See 2 Timothy 2:15-16;
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

Discipleship isn’t enticing or about coercing people. The charge is to teach men the message of Christ with clarity and no additives. The goal is not just to have men in their numbers, the model is to be consistent with the Christ model. Are you doing it how He commanded?
