Helping your church grow (2)
The church is a gathering of believers and every believer should aim at getting the church better, the believer should not be a problem, rather he should be the reason the church is growing and making progress. The church has a mandate from God – to grow. The believer’s commitment to the church is his commitment to Christ.
In Acts 1, we saw 120 people gathered together, praying and then in Acts 2, we see that 3000 people were added to their numbers; again in Acts 4, 5000 men were added and later on, it was said to be multitudes of people – that is God’s plan and why we have the church; to grow, to make progress through the preaching and teaching of the gospel.
Acts 6:7 – And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
When God’s word is growing, we see it in the numbers. God’s plan is growth – his dream for his church is big.
Acts 9:31 – Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
As the word grows, the church grows, and we see disciples multiplied.
How do you help your local church?
Pray daily for the church – commitment is to the church you are praying for.
Be available daily – a true disciple is available; you don’t and should not cherry-pick meetings, be dependable and committed to your local church.
Consistently reach out to the lost – be the reason people love Jesus more.
Raise disciples – this is God’s number one plan; to raise people that will love and serve him. There must be someone listening to God’s word because of you.
Give – to the church, to your Pastor, to the poor, to your parents, to people that are in need of it – be a consistent giver. Give, help your church grow. In acts 2, they sold what they had because they wanted to give to those who needed it.
Acts 2:45 – And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
Work hard – whatever you do in the natural affects your spiritual and because you are a minister of the gospel, you will be a giver so, double your efforts and work hard.
Take care of yourself – eat well, sleep and rest well, take good care of your health.
Be submissive to the church – be submissive to the church’s plan, vision, and purpose. Realize that we are all working towards the same goal. In the local church, no one is trying to do their own thing, so, be submissive to authority.
Always want the church to grow – always want the hall filled, do your part – go out and raise men who will wholeheartedly love God and serve him.
If you want your local church to grow, be a part of its growth – don’t run and hide. Don’t be the reason someone is not paying; be a source of constant encouragement and comfort.
