How to deal with fear

There are things that can happen on the earth that can get one scared but it’s important the believer knows that being unsettled isn’t God’s will. The Christian faith is an optimistic one, there’s absolutely nothing pessimistic about it. Recognize that fear is not from God.

John 14:1;
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. (KJV)

Get rid of all the negative thoughts in your head. Fear is never God’s plan.

Isaiah 26:3-4
3 You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.
4 Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.

If your mind is stayed on the Lord, you’ll have peace. God doesn’t break his word and he isn’t the variable one. Get your mind stayed on the Lord. What sinks a boat isn’t what is around it but what gets into it through a hole. The believer must mind what gets into him. Don’t let the wrong things get into you.

So, ask yourself: “What comes into my mind?”God doesn’t want you scared.

Fear is a function of information and it can be traced. So, learn to ask yourself when fear arises, what’s the source of this fear? Why am I scared?

Read Matt. 14:26-33;

The disciples were troubled. The fear came from the thoughts in their head. Jesus told them, ‘don’t be afraid’.

See Peter too: The wind was already there when he started the walk. How come the wind suddenly mattered. Peter’s doubting was the reason for the sinking. Peter shifted his focus off Jesus to the natural.

Jesus said, “Why did you doubt?”

Fear comes from doubt. Thus, the believer must control how his mind works. He ought to put his mind in the right place. He ought to fix his mind on the word.
The believer must learn to live by the word. Often times, when the believer gets scared and sad, it is because he has put God’s word on the back seat. Watch what stays around you and the information you allow get into you. For what stays around you for long will eventually get into you.

What the word of God does to you is to strengthen you. Your joy shouldn’t be dependent on what this world can give. It should be constant irrespective of circumstances and situations.

The book of Philippians was a book Paul wrote in prison, even the church was in persecution yet see what Paul told them:

Rejoice in the Lord always; and again I say, “Rejoice!” (Phi. 4:4; KJV)

Regardless of what’s happening around you, keep your joy intact and constant.
Rejoice in the Lord, always!

In verse 8 of that same chapter, Paul tells them how to keep their joy intact:
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Paul reveals how the believer ought to think. If you’d want to always have joy, think about the things that are true, honest, of good report. So, when you get scared, think about the things that are true.

God’s word is true!

The word ought to dictate how/what you see. You must think about it. God’s word should be your reality. it should dictate the boundaries of your thinking.

Stay positive. Stay joyful. Stay hopeful. Switch from negativity to the word of God.
When you are scared, look at Jesus. Take your eyes of the situation.

Mk. 11:23-24;
23 For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, ‘Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea,’ and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, what things so ever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Keep speaking to the mountain. The believer must learn how to stay on God’s word till it gives the desired result. If faith comes by hearing, it means doubts will too.

– surround yourself with the right people
– Put your mind in the right place
– Pray

Believers who get scared often are believers who don’t pray often.

Put the word of God on your mouth. Rather than cry, pray – channel supernatural energy. Prayer strengthens you. Prayer is God’s will for your life. Prayer keeps the devil far away. If you go on your knees often, you’ll stand victorious.

Stay praying.
