Receiving God’s best in Christian Meetings
1Peter 3:15
But sanctify the lord God in your hearts; and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.
There is a reason why we do what we do, Peter says always be ready to give account, you must be able to explain what you do.
There is a vital important aspect of church meetings that exceeds devotions. There is something that coming together as a believer can do that personal devotion can’t, it’s called corporate anointing. In Luke 24 Jesus told them to tarry, there was a specific instruction and a specific place.
Lk. 24:49;
49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
We see the effect of obeying that specific instruction upon all that gathered on that day – Act 2:1-4:
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Such mighty things happened at that day. That same day, 3000 men got saved after Paul preached to them, same were added to the church. It shows just how much christian meetings are fashioned to get us better – to make us more effective in our ministries.
1 Corinthians 11:17;
Now in this that I declare unto you I praise ye not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse.
Paul rebuked them because they didn’t get better when they gathered; when we gather together we ought to get better. The believer must learn how to receive in Christian meetings. He must learn to receive, reception is not passive but active, you receive because you want to, you are prepared to receive, you make plans to receive, it is deliberate. As much as God desires to bless you, he won’t force his blessings on you. You must know how to receive all that God gives.
In Christian meetings you must keep your eyes open as they are a door way to receive. Also keep your ears open, be attentive to every syllable, sometimes in the jokes, illustrations, you find a way to explain better. Even if you have written it before, write it again and again. Have a child-like heart that is ready to receive God’s word afresh every time.
Teaching meeting, a good one births conviction and insight in you, it also enables you to teach others with much clarity and precision. You open your mind, ensure your mind is there, your mind must be alert, totally alert, your entire focus should be on the teacher and what he is saying, your attention is important.
Another thing that is important is what you do before the meeting. When it rains, we can receive different quantities of water depending on what we bring; if Mr. A comes with a cup, another a bucket, and another a tank, the one that brought a tank will receive larger, not because the rain favoured him more but because of his capacity to receive. You build your capacity before the meeting; you pray well, go through your note well, and be early to the meeting.
Preparing for a special meeting is also as important as the meeting itself because it determines to what extent you will receive all that God has for you. So, stay at the cutting edge of receiving all that God has for you and keep the fire aflame.
