Jesus – Our Saviour
The message of the gospel is good news. The man Jesus Christ, God in humanity’s frailty, coming to give His life for the salvation of many. The writer of Hebrews had this to say;
Hebrews 2: 10-12;
10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 saying: “I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly, I will sing praise to You.”
In His humanity, death, burial and resurrection, Jesus identifies fully with us and as us, a proof and consummation of the plan from the beginning.
It was man that fell short of God’s glory. It was man that walked out of God’s plan in rebellion, yet God remained firm on His word and on his desire – a world in Christ. As we course through the pages of the scriptures, it becomes obvious that the entire narrative is woven around Christ– He is the SAVIOUR
Matthew 1:21
12 And she shall bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name JESUS; for it is He that shall save his people from their sins.
The word Savior refers to one who rescues, one who delivers and protects. Sin desired to have humanity in a chokehold, the pangs of death knocking, with despair almost setting in. But God is never slack concerning his promises. With a victory-themed chant, He brought to nought the plan of the enemy. Paul writes of this:
Colossians 2:12-15
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
He delivered us from darkness. We are not bound. Jesus; upon the resurrection, birth a family of newborn free men — our freedom now to serve our saving father as serving saints.
Hebrews 12:28
28 Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, whereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with reverence and awe:
Jesus is the saviour of the world, God’s rescue for us from damnation and darkness.
Paul describes our former state in sin:
Ephesians 2:1-2, 4-6;
1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
Oh, what a gift! God in his love made a way for us. With a shout of victory, He extends unto us the free gift of salvation, and by Faith in His name, you can boldly say “I am Saved”. You are assured that your life is hid in Christ and you will never taste death.
This is not ordinary; it is your reality! Peter calls it being delivered darkness into his marvellous light. Today, take a moment to give thanks to the Father for His gift of salvation. Thank Him for the newness of life you have received and for the privilege to be called a Child of God.
