1 Peter 1:8 KJV
“Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.”
Peter’s words hold a peculiar significance for these believers, who were facing formidable trials. Despite their challenges, he urges them to embrace a joy that transcends words.
The word ‘Rejoice’ is from the Greek word that implies being exceedingly glad, to leap up, to jump for joy! Meaning joy is visible. You don’t look gloomy and claim you are joyful, joy is expressed.
In Peter’s time, as in ours, life’s trials and tribulations can be intense. Persecutions in our way as we witness the truth of the gospel will abound. Yet, in the midst of all these, he reminds us to grasp onto joy.
Always make that active choice to be joyful, It is already your natural state so just as a diamond shines most brilliantly against a dark backdrop, your joy should be more evident in the face of life’s challenges.
Therefore, when trials come knocking, remember that the source of your joy remains untouched. It’s the joy of knowing Christ, the joy of salvation, and the joy of an eternal hope. This joy doesn’t diminish in the face of adversity.
Finally, joy amidst trials isn’t a denial of life’s difficulties, but a declaration of your faith in the One who has overcome the world. By rejoicing in the midst of challenges, you have told the wicked one “not today, you’ve lost this time and would remain under my feet”.
Put that Joy on! We always win, Amen
