Learning God in Christ (2)

We have hitherto seen that the incarnation (God become flesh) presents to us the true nature of the Father. In Jesus’ incarnation, we learn the character of God that he doesn’t make anyone sick. Jesus didn’t hurt a fly. It’s funny how many today expect God to show ‘his power’ with turbulence, NO! That’s not the God we saw in Christ, the one we saw in the scriptures rather healed all that came to him, he raised the dead too, had compassion on the weak and fainthearted, he was a healing God. His response to a request for healing was always ‘I WILL’.

When he went to his hometown and they did not receive him as a healer. When their unbelief and dishonor stripped him of the help he would have rendered, this Jesus, this God sent his disciples to correct them so that healings can happen, he is a compassionate God, that’s the God we learnt in Christ.

He DOESN’T TEMPT!

James 1:13; Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

In absolute fact, he was tempted !

He DOESN’T CONDEMN AND UPBRAID

James 1:5; If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Remember him telling the woman caught in the act of adultery, I do not condemn you, go ad sin no more.

John 8:10-11;
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

And HE DOESN’T ANSWER BY FIRE!

Luke 9:54-56;
54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?
55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.
56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

He didn’t die for man so that he can have them destroyed, he is a saviour not a dragon!

Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

He shall save them from their sins NOT he shall kill them for their sins. We learnt this of God in Christ. He is a faithful God, full of mercy and the lord of longsuffering. He is not the angry God waiting to destroy, he is the lord of grace saving all that would believe in him from destruction.

A glad and forgiving Jesus messes up some people’s theology, that should not be, we must take God for who he is, it’s clear in the scriptures, right from the old testament books to the new, he would save, he would redeem, he would restore, he would bless, for that is who he is!

He is Jesus, the healing Jesus, the saving Jesus, the merciful Jesus. The merciful God. We see him clearly, our everlasting father, eternal love. We see clearly his eyes of Love.
