Love in our Christian meetings (4)

It’s important to reiterate that a Christian meeting is a meeting where we have the gathering of men who have believed the gospel, men who have the spirit of God. The believer has the Holy Spirit. One of the types of meetings we have in the church is the Holy Ghost meeting. The Holy Ghost meeting is where everyone flows with the things of the spirit. We enjoy the gathering of the brothers with what we have in common – the spirit.

Active fellowship means to give what you partake of, and our giving and partaking will be of the spirit.

1 Corinthians 11:1,17-18
1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
17 Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse.
18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it

When we come together, we ought to get better, that is the aim! We receive of the spirit and we give the same. Division is the opposite of fellowship, things, and people only get better in oneness (fellowship).

1 Corinthians 11:21-24
21 For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.
22 What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.
23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

The sole essence of bringing the food was to share (fellowship), not to eat and get drunk. Paul used the narrative of the last supper to teach love in sharing (fellowship). The breaking of the bread was not because of hunger, it was supposed to be for fellowship. The believer should not be self-centred, Jesus was not – he died for us. Love is evidently seen in our fellowship with the brotherhood.
