Supernatural discipleship (1)
Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Upon the resurrection, Jesus tells his disciples that all power (power to get men saved) is given to him and then he said ‘to go out and teach all nations (to raise disciples – that is, to preach to someone and make them a student of God’s word). This tells us that we will make disciples by preaching the gospel (Luke 24:44-48, Mark 16:15-17), discipleship starts with the gospel. There should not be a believer that is not preaching the gospel. Preaching is a skill that can be learnt, so, not knowing what to say is not an excuse. Discipleship, (‘matheteuo’ in the Greek, is to train people in God’s will, but there is a way it is done.
We can ask God in prayer for wisdom for supernatural discipleship.
Acts 6:1-3
1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
As simple as what the apostles needed people for in the church (to serve food), they had to have the qualification of being full of the spirit and wisdom. Wisdom is one of the tools you need in discipleship.
Joshua 1:8 – This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
The word prosperous means you will deal wisely in the affairs of life; Thus, in discipleship, you meet someone, you preach the gospel to them, and get them saved, then you start to teach that same gospel. You don’t use man’s wisdom in the work of discipleship – you go for God’s wisdom. There is wisdom that comes with age and experience, but this is not the one needed for discipleship. Don’t assume to know something – discipleship is in the knowledge of the gospel, not experiences. Timothy was a Pastor of a church, even though he was a teenager.
