The fields are white
John 4:35;
“Do you not say, ‘There are still four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!
The eyes here represent your perception and focus. Just as it’s possible to appear consecrated without truly being consecrated, it’s also not impossible to discuss the harvest without actively pursuing it. This should not be so for you as a believer. Your focus must be on the harvest. We live in a time that demands intense concentration on the harvest.
In Jesus’ words, “Don’t say the harvest is in four months.” This implies procrastination. You must not be found simply talking about the harvest; start now by actively engaging in it. God’s mandate is to fill the earth with the knowledge of His Son, and as labourers in His vineyard, this is our task.
What about the fields? It represents the world of men—men living in darkness, in need of God’s light. Paul speaks of the dying world — As you step out each day, be reminded that the harvest is plentiful, the fields are full and white, and God is counting on you. God has commissioned us, and we should fix our gaze on His work. See John 20:21:
Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
‘The king’s work demands haste.’ Our call is to take to the streets with the message of His salvation. The light is green, don’t wait, simply go!
Hearts are ready, and the labourers haven’t surpassed the Harvest. Therefore, lift up your eyes. See that God is working, see that the nations are ready for you, and act on the word. The harvest is already here, and it’s abundant!
Like Moses in Genesis, you ought to lift your eyes and heed God’s word— Exodus 3:3 Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight…”
Turn your eyes and see…let your heart yearn for more. Let your desire be focused on His work. Step out in faith and step out in courage.
Say this: “The days of laxity and weariness are gone. My resolve is strengthened to go for the harvest as I go about preaching and teaching. I will open the blindness in the hearts of many as I preach; His mandate, like fire shut up in my bones, is spurring me to do His cause, and I am going for the harvest in my discipleship.”
