The mediation
1 Timothy 2:5-7;
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
In Christ, we have God in man reconciling the world to himself and also we see man in God. The reality of the Pauline revelation is the tangibility of our identification with the father in Christ.
In that mediation, God became man, and there are no two names, both parties are addressed as same. In the mediation, God calls us what we call him.
Ephesians 1:3; Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
The word, ‘blessed’ is better put as ‘to speak well of’, so we speak well of God who has spoken well of us.
God calls us what we call him, to call the believer in Christ anything otherwise God’s own (a peculiar people) is not only derogatory of the believer but also of the mediation.
The mediation points clearly to the character of God – God seeks man.
2 Corinthians 5:19-20;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
He is not a sin-phobic God, rather he became man to save man. Born by a “sinner”, lived with ‘sinners’ , chose ‘sinners’ as disciples, ate with the same, died a sinner’s death, went to where sinner’s would go, and rose up to see sinners that would believe in him. He is a man-seeking, man-loving, man-dwelling God.
Galatians 2:21; I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
God is the saviour, and the work of salvation is that of the saviour and stays with the same. It is his duty to keep, preserve and present, not ours, we are only recipients of this eternal love.
To say that the saved has a role to play to “keep” what he never started is to say he actually never needed a saviour, for if being right with God would come by the law, Christ died in vain. But glory to God, He is never changing. All that believe in this mediation have eternal life. His words are “I will not leave you nor forsake you”, “He that comes to me I will in no wise cast away”, “none can snatch them out of my hands”, “I will give the spirit who will abide in you forever”. Glory!
So when you read and sing: “God is able to do just what he says he will do”, think on these words.
This is what we preach: God invited God and man in himself, Christ becomes the meeting point for divinity and humanity, to save to the uttermost those who will believe.
He is able, don’t you think so?
