The seed is the word (1)

Read Mark 4:1-9;

Note that, the seed is not money, hence the title of today’s devotional – the seed is the word, there is no place in the bible (used 256 times) that called seed, money. In Greek, the word seed is the word ‘sperma’, lLet’s see some of it’s usages:

Matthew 13:4
And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the wayside, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
We don’t put money by the wayside

Mark 12:19
Master, Moses wrote unto us, if a man’s brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

Luke 1:55
As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed forever.

John 7:42
Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

Romans 1:3
Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh.
Jesus is the seed of David.

In these usages, you’ll see that there is nowhere in the Bible that seed was used in place of money. In the Old Testament, the word seed (Hebrew word – Zera) was used for literal seeds or as children. So, the seed in the bible, in the case of the parable of the sower, is the word of God, not money or house or car.

Mark 4:14
The sower soweth the word.

Read Matthew 13:3-15

12) For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

That sentence in verse 12 (he that has, more shall be given and he that has not, what he has shall be taken away from him) is not for tithing, what the disciples had was understanding, they understood Jesus, they understood his sermons.

Matthew 13:13-15
13) Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not; neither do they understand.
14) And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
15) For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

But what those other people had (the people he was talking to in parables) is what will be taken away, which is not money. What they had was a grossed heart, dull ears and eyes that cannot see and these are the things Jesus will take away, which is why he’s teaching them. That is, by the reason of parables, Jesus will take away that hard heart and give them a heart of flesh. The use of parables for those that do not understand was to make them understand, and this is the love of God in demonstration.

The parable is not just of the soil or of the seed, it’s also the parable of the sower, there are lessons to learn from the soil, but it is primarily the parable of the sower.
