What you should be eager about

The believer must learn to channel his energy and zeal aright. We must be consistent at some things.

2 Timothy 2:15; Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The word ‘study’ here implies being eager, to be diligent! Paul instructed Timothy to be eager and he tells him what to be eager towards – rightly dividing the word of truth.

‘Rightly dividing’ meaning to carefully handle, to cut straight.

The word “rightly dividing” is used for miners and surgeons, it’s the way they carefully bring out that which is being searched for. It is used for those who have been trained.

Paul tells Timothy to BE EAGER about proper Bible interpretation – this should be the attitude of every believer towards explanation of scriptures, we must not be frivolous and lackadaisical about proper explanation, we must not be like some who act as though they were not saved by the word.

2Timothy 3:16; All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

The scriptures were not given for quoting or to be handled carelessly, its given for doctrine that is proper explanation and teaching, to the end that we are nurtured up and grow. The written word should therefore hold supreme in all local churches and amongst believers’ gatherings, that’s the essence of church.

1Timothy 3:15; But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

The church is the mainstay for truth, our honor for the word properly explained is our honor for the church and by implication, our honor for the head of the church.

There are things we should be eager about, things that should spur joy and excitement, things that should get us all diligent – and Paul says one of these things is RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD.

Say: I hold the word in high esteem, I forever remain eager and excited about proper handling of the word and I’m growing everyday.
