You have overcome the world (1)
Philemon 1:6;
That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
The word communication is the word fellowship – ‘koinonia’ in the Greek, it means the sharing, what we have in common in the faith. Paul calls what makes the sharing of the faith effectual is an acknowledgement, there’s a thing the believer ought to always acknowledge – who he is in Christ. The believer is only effective to the level of his acknowledgement, which will be found in precise understanding – the therapy for ineffective ministry is knowledge, understanding, and acknowledgement. This is why we have the Pauline prayers;
Ephesians 3:14-20;
14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
Paul prayed, and he said that they should be able to comprehend (verse 18), comprehension is in understanding.
Also, Philippians 1:9-11;
9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
There is something about knowledge in the New Testament ministry that cannot be overlooked. Again, we see Paul pray in;
Colossians 1:9;
For this cause, we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
Paul prayed for them to have spiritual understanding. In his prayers, there is an emphatic mention of knowledge for the believer, this shows the importance of knowledge (epignosis in the Greek). In Philippians, the knowledge is that of Love, while in Colossians, it’s about the will of God. But it is different with Ephesians (chapters 1 and 3), it is as though Paul had a different reason for praying for them in Ephesus.
Read Ephesians 1:15-23;
The inheritance is in the saints (verse 18), Paul is talking about the power in us, to us-ward. In Ephesians 3, he says there is a power at work in us (verse 20). In Ephesians 6:10 (Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might), he tells us how to be strong in the lord – by being strong in the power of his might. So it is as though the focus is about Power, not to have power but to see and to know the power that is at work in the believer.
